The Street Survey Committee was resurrected in 2004, and monitors Gloucester’s historic buildings, street scene, plaques and monuments. The work is fascinating and forms an important part of Gloucester’s wellbeing.

In 2004 the Street Survey Committee surveyed and photographed every building in our four gate streets. This huge task was professionally carried out under the guidance of David Champion, and the results of the survey are used to regularly monitor the condition of our historic buildings.

This project led to the reinstatement of the biennial Civic Awards ceremony where we honour the restoration of fine buildings and visionary architecture of the future.
